ABID SHAIKH
Abid Usmangani Shaikh was born on October 8, 1977, in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, and is a contemporary Indian artist known for his reflective and intuitive visual language. He completed his BFA in Painting from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 2002, grounding his practice in strong academic training while developing a deeply personal and contemplative approach.
Abid has presented a compelling body of work through several acclaimed solo exhibitions, beginning with Astitva at Jehangir Art Gallery (2003). His subsequent solo shows at Museum Art Gallery, BCA Art Gallery, and Sumukha Art Galleries in Chennai and Bangalore, along with exhibitions such as Local Spine, Soft Land, Equals, and Unity (Jehangir Art Gallery, 2023), mark the steady evolution of his artistic vision. He has also participated in prominent platforms including the Global Art Fair and India Art Festival.
His works have been featured in significant group exhibitions in India and internationally, including the Singapore Art Fair and Harmony Art Shows in Mumbai and Dubai. Abid has received numerous awards, notably the Harmony Excellence Award (2006), the Camel Art Foundation First Prize, the Euro Art Tour Winner of the CAF Art Contest (2017), and multiple honours from the Sir J.J. School of Art.
Abid Usmangani Shaikh’s paintings are held in important public and private collections in India and abroad. Known for their conceptual clarity, balanced compositions, and quiet emotional depth, his works invite reflection on themes of unity, coexistence, and inner resilience.
