Sunil Chauhan is the Founder and Director of Suan Artland Gallery, a leading institution for modern and contemporary art based in Mumbai. His journey into the art world is as unique as his curatorial perspective—shaped by rich cross-cultural experiences, a deep appreciation for aesthetics, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
A graduate in Economics from Hindu College, Delhi University, Sunil began his professional career in the hospitality and travel industry. He worked with ITC Travel House at the iconic Maurya Sheraton, New Delhi, where he spent two formative years Later 4 years in other travel companies. This role not only honed his sense of detail and presentation but also offered him global exposure and the chance to build meaningful relationships across borders.
It was during this time that a serendipitous connection with a Belgian art collector sparked a new direction in his life. Encouraged and inspired by their conversations, Sunil decided to pursue his passion for art and create a platform that would support both established and emerging artists in India.
In 1999, he founded Artland, which later evolved into Suan Artland Gallery—now a respected name in India’s contemporary art landscape. Drawing from his diverse background, Sunil brings a unique sensibility to curation: one that values storytelling, technique, and timeless creativity. His gallery in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, has become a cultural landmark, admired for its thoughtfully curated exhibitions and its role in building distinguished art collections.
