Sunil Tambe
Born in 1975, Sunil Tambe is a contemporary Indian artist known for his sensuous figurative works and a refined, minimalist visual language. He has a strong academic foundation, having completed his Art Teachers Diploma from Pragat Kala Mahavidyalaya, Ahmednagar (1994), followed by a Government Diploma in Fine Art (Painting) from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune (1997), and a Diploma in Art Education from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai (1998). Early in his career, he also served briefly as a lecturer at SSVPS School of Art, Dhule.
Tambe’s artistic practice is firmly rooted in figuration, characterized by graceful female forms and a keen sense of balance and proportion. A distinctive feature of his work is the use of black silhouetted figures set against vibrant, richly coloured backgrounds, creating strong visual contrast and heightened emotional resonance. His compositions are controlled yet expressive, allowing form and colour to communicate with quiet intensity.
A recurring and deeply evocative theme in his work is the bond between mother and child, rendered with sensitivity, warmth, and emotional depth. These works reflect intimacy, nurturing strength, and timeless human connection.
