SACHIN Akalekar
Sachin Akalekar was born on 22 December 1976 in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra. He completed his Foundation at the Government School of Art, Aurangabad (1995), followed by A.T.D. (1996) and BFA (2000) from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, he creates figurative and conceptual paintings inspired by nature and human experiences, and is particularly known for his Nandi series, which explores cultural and spiritual symbolism through a contemporary visual language.
Akalekar has held several solo exhibitions at major venues including Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2017, 2026), Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (2018), Pradarshak Art Gallery, Mumbai (2019), Artist’s Centre, Mumbai (2010, 2012), and Tilting Art Gallery, Pune (2009, 2011). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions across India and internationally, with shows in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Singapore, and Dubai.
His practice includes participation in important art camps and residencies such as the National Painters’ Camp at Alva’s Varn Virasat, Karnataka (2019), and residencies at ICA Gallery, Jaipur (2024), Jal Shrushti, Mulshi (2024), and Park Inn by Radisson, Goa (2025). With a steady exhibition history and an evolving body of work, Sachin Akalekar continues to contribute actively to the contemporary art scene from his studio in Pune.
