Description
PINTU SIKDER
Pintu Sikder was born in 1983 in Kolkata and is a contemporary sculptor and interdisciplinary artist whose practice extends across site-specific installations, public art, and sculptural interventions. He completed his Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) in 2006 from the Indian College of Art Draftsmanship, followed by a Master of Visual Arts (MVA) in 2008 from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.
Trained as a sculptor, Sikder’s creative vision transcends traditional boundaries, engaging deeply with public spaces and collective experiences. He is an active member of the Kolkata-based collective art space ‘Chander Haat’, and his work often challenges conventional perspectives through immersive, participatory installations.
His sculptures address pressing concerns of contemporary society, reflecting on industrialisation, urbanisation, global warming, pollution, marginalised communities, and socio-cultural imbalances. Alongside his individual practice, Sikder is also prominently involved in Kolkata’s Durga Puja public art ecosystem, contributing to the creation of large-scale site-specific installations, temporary pandal architectures, and divine idols, making him a significant voice in contemporary public sculpture and community-based art practices.
