Description

Paramesh Paul

Born in 1970 in rural West Bengal, Paramesh Paul grew up in a family of traditional potters, where his earliest artistic expressions emerged through creating clay images of deities. Surrounded by craft, ritual, and faith, his artistic sensibility developed naturally within a deeply spiritual environment.

Though he initially studied Commerce, Paramesh chose to follow his inner calling and devoted nearly a decade to life within ISKCON temples, a period that profoundly shaped his artistic and spiritual vision. A self-taught artist, he draws inspiration from Hindu mythology, sacred architecture, and ancient holy cities, seamlessly blending imagination with lived experience.

Banaras remains central to his work, with the Ganga Ghats frequently forming layered backdrops that mirror the city’s spiritual depth and complexity. Temples, steps, mountains, and flowing water unfold across his canvases, offering new perspectives and contemplative space. His palette of rustic yellows, reds, greens, and blues reflects the timeless simplicity and gentle rhythm of the river Ganga.

Recurring motifs such as Lord Shiva and Nandi, often accompanied by worshippers along the river, symbolize devotion and introspection. Reflections in the water echo moments of self-reflection experienced by pilgrims visiting the holy city. Free from strict academic conventions, Paramesh’s vivid, mythology-inspired paintings unite the material and metaphysical, creating works that are serene, narrative, and spiritually resonant.
