Dhirendra Mandge
Dhirendra Mandge is a contemporary Indian artist inspired by ancient Indian architecture and cultural heritage. He completed his BFA (1995) and MFA (1997) from the College of Fine Arts, Indore, and is widely recognized for his acrylic-on-canvas works depicting stepwells, temples, forts, and historic monuments.
His fascination with architectural forms began in childhood, influenced by the forts of Maharashtra, where stone textures, wooden doors, and shifting light left a lasting impression. Mandge values spontaneity in his process, allowing paintings to evolve organically. As he notes, “The colours I put on canvas are my words and the painting is a script.” His works often reveal multiple sections unified by a single visual rhythm, reflecting his belief in unity within diversity.
Working primarily in acrylic, and occasionally in watercolour, Mandge uses subdued and earthy tones to evoke antiquity while maintaining vibrancy and depth. His paintings blend matured skill with evolving ideas, creating dynamic yet contemplative compositions.
He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in India and internationally, including World Art Dubai, and his works are part of private and institutional collections across India, the UAE, Europe, and the United States. He currently lives and works in Indore, India.
