BEENA SAMUEL
Beena Samuel is an accomplished contemporary artist based in Dubai, born in India and a resident of the UAE since 1982. Largely self-taught, she began her art journey in 1995 after a background in accountancy, driven by a lifelong passion for drawing and painting. Working across watercolours, mixed media, mosaics, silk painting, acrylics, and upcycling, she believes art is a bridge that unites humanity and finds beauty in the imperfect, unexpected, and often overlooked.
Her style is abstract, lyrical, exuberant, and improvisational—deeply inspired by nature’s unpredictability. With a keen sensitivity to colour and texture, Beena approaches painting like a jazz musician, allowing intuition to guide the process. Landscapes, still life, and colourful figures drawn from life inform her work, while the transparency of watercolour and the vibrance of silk remain her preferred mediums. Her influences include Turner, Van Gogh, Charles Reid, Shirley Trevena, Barbara Nechis, and Samir Mondal.
Beena has exhibited widely in the UAE and internationally for over two decades, with her first solo exhibition at Gallery76, Dubai (2008). She is a recipient of several awards, including First Prize at the UAE Watercolor Challenge (2003). Her works are held in notable public and private collections worldwide, including The One & Only Royal Mirage Hotel; works supporting Gender Pay Equality were acquired by Chevron Al Khalij Oil Corporation, and two artworks were published in A Salute to Tolerant UAE, gifted to H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak. Actively engaged in community and education, she supports charitable causes and currently conducts Creative Watercolour and Silk Painting workshops at the Dubai International Art Centre.
