NAWAL KISHORE
Nawal Kishore born on March 17, 1977, Rampur, Uttar Pradesh is a distinguished Indian artist whose practice and academic contributions have significantly shaped the contemporary art landscape. He completed his BFA (2000) and MFA (2004) from the College of Arts & Crafts, Lucknow, and further enriched his perspective through an Art Appreciation course at the State Museum, Lucknow.
In 2001–02, Kishore worked on a Research Grant from the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, at the Garhi Art Studio—an experience that strengthened his conceptual and professional grounding. His career includes numerous prestigious solo exhibitions at venues such as Lalit Kala Akademi (New Delhi and Lucknow), Gallery Art Project (New Delhi), India Art Festival (New Delhi), and JS Art Gallery (Mumbai), alongside wide participation in major group exhibitions across India and internationally, including Singapore, Dubai, the USA, and the Presidential House, New Delhi.
His works have also entered the auction circuit, notably at Art Bangalore (2012), organised by Christel House. Actively engaged with the art community, Kishore has participated in major national art camps and workshops and has curated several important exhibitions, including the Regional Art Exhibitions (UP) organised by the State Lalit Kala Akademi.
Recipient of several honours, he has been awarded the Junior Fellowship by the Ministry of Culture (2016–18), the M.F. Husain Award by Prafulla Dhanukar Arts Trust, the City Award, and multiple All India Awards from AIFACS. His paintings are housed in prominent institutional and private collections, including government bodies, international embassies, and notable collectors. Alongside his studio practice, he has also contributed to art education, serving as Head of Department at the Amity School of Fine Arts, Amity University, Lucknow and Noida.
