Description

Rupesh Sonar

Rupesh Sonar was born in 1995 in Satara, Maharashtra, and is a contemporary Indian artist known for his evocative landscape and nature-inspired paintings. Currently based in Mumbai, his practice is rooted in close observation of the natural environment and the quiet rhythms of rural life across India.

Nature serves as the central inspiration and guiding force in Rupesh’s work. Through travel and lived experience, he captures intimate moments of realization, translating the calm, silence, and meditative quality of rural landscapes onto canvas. His paintings evoke tranquility and emotional depth, inviting viewers into spaces of reflection and stillness through subtle tonal shifts and atmospheric sensitivity.

An active practicing artist for over a decade, Rupesh received formal training at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune, where he developed a strong foundation in landscape painting and visual expression. His work has been recognised with several awards, including Papertells Art Gallery Award (2012), Pranlal Bhogilal Fund Award at the Bombay Art Society, Mumbai (2014), Baburao Sadvelkar Award by Sumbran Art Foundation, Pune (2015), and the DSK Kala Vishwa State Level Landscape Competition Award. In 2016, he was selected for the Nehru Centre Landscape Study Camp, Alibaug.

Rupesh Sonar’s works reflect a sincere engagement with harmony, balance, and emotional resonance within nature. His paintings have been exhibited in group shows and are held in private collections. He continues to live and work in Mumbai, exploring the poetic relationship between land, light, and lived experience.
