VRINDAVAN SOLANKI
Vrindavan Solanki, born in 1942 in Junagadh, Gujarat, is a renowned artist whose career spans several decades. He studied Painting at M.S. University, Vadodara, completing his Diploma in 1980, followed by a Post Diploma in Graphics in 1982. Solanki also served as a Visiting Faculty member at the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad from 1982 to 1987. He was an active member of the Lalit Kala Academy, Gujarat, from 1987 to 1990. His work has been widely exhibited both in India and abroad, with his first solo show taking place at Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai in 1969. Other significant solo exhibitions followed, including at the Taj Art Gallery in Mumbai in 1981 and The Continental Hotel in Curepipe, Mauritius in 1991. He has also participated in several prestigious group shows, such as the 35th Annual Art Exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Calcutta in 1970 and at the Manhattan Graphics Centre in New York in 2004.
Solanki’s remarkable talent has earned him numerous honors and awards throughout his career. He won his first prize at the Gujarat Lalit Kala Academy (LKA) in Ahmedabad in 1966, and his early success continued with additional awards, including the Gold Medal and First Prize at the Art Society of India in Mumbai in 1970. Over the years, he has been recognized with various accolades, such as the Silver Medal for Best Drawing from the Bombay Art Society in 1974, and multiple First Prizes from LKA and Kalidas Art Exhibitions. Notable awards include the Print Award for Etching in 1984 and several prestigious recognitions in subsequent years.
Currently based in Ahmedabad, Solanki continues to contribute significantly to the Indian art scene with his exceptional skill and dedication. His work remains highly regarded both in the country and internationally.
